Valediction

Background

Valediction is a pleasant piano piece in E major. The piece was very fun to write and came to me in about a day, but there is one interesting bit about it; I did not play a single of these notes on the piano. This piece was before I began to learn and indulge in the piano myself, so it was written entirely with my mouse and laptop. While I did not know how to play piano, I had studied piano pieces in the past and tried to emulate the techniques and write idiomatically. The piece is certainly playable (though certain L.H/R.H areas should be altered at the discretion of the player), and has been performed once before. There is never more than an octave reach in one hand, making it a very accessible piece.
The main theme is constructed from the motif 1-7-3. The main chord progression plays as follows: I-vi-iii-IV with the second iteration utilizing a V/vi instead of iii. This creates a deceptive cadence in its resolution to IV, though the major heavy melody keeps the listener grounded in E major.
